Chameleon
16 - 26 january 2025 Geneva Théâtre du Galpon
What if there really were two?
Apply the rule of two. One plus one equals who? Which of the two takes the (dance) step over the other? The encounter can surprise us and reveal parts of ourselves. Do bodies lie when they meet? Even in lies there is truth. How do we disentangle the true from the false in what these bodies say? Like the chameleon, do we have to adapt, even if it means playing a role in front of the other person in order to enhance our own image or hide our imperfections and flaws?
In this work by Cie József Trefeli, five dancers sketch out a methodology for dealing with the other within the duo. Two means a complex set of interactions in which seduction, empathy, lies, conflict, sometimes stupidity, always playfulness are all mixed up together. Each pair of bodies and minds develops its own language, which includes its share of misunderstandings.
Chameleon reveals a unique and authentic human connection. Echoing the chameleon's ability to adapt, the show will appeal to contemporary dance enthusiasts as well as those who are unfamiliar with it. This choreographic project is a stimulating invitation to gain a better understanding of what binds us together or sets us apart, and bears witness to our astonishing ability to adapt to others.
